Nelson, BC, Canada. Built in 1913, The Adventure Hotel originally came to life as The Grand Hotel. Based on our research and tales that have been passed down, The Grand was a hotel that built during the boom of the local population as the established mining and forestry industries thrived. By 1914, the “Queen City” was a Divisional Point for the Canadian Pacific Railway, Canada Customs, central Post Office and Supreme Court. New owners took over The Grand Hotel changing the name to The Lord Nelson. The Lord Nelson was known to be a brothel of sorts, expanding it's business to having a pub with no windows, followed by Taffy Jacks, a more family oriented dining experience. The Lord Nelson remained for many years until new ownership (current owners) took over The Lord Nelson and gave it a much needed facelift. This facelift brought back the original name, called The New Grand Hotel and brought each department into the 20th century. From there the hotel began to grow in popularity allowing for it's most recent renovation that took place in 2015.
As it sits now, The Adventure Hotel is a unique retro-modern space nestled smack dab in the middle of downtown Nelson. It's name is meant to coincide with the adventerous community of the Kootenays and promotes itself to those who seek never ending life adventures. The hotel now boasts a cool sports pub, a beautiful steakhouse/lounge, a trendy coffee shop with an atrium, and a high end liquor store all within one minute of each other. The rooms have prices ranging from $83 to $149, budget to deluxe, all of which have their own unique characteristics and are immaculately kept. There's storage for bikes, skis, golf clubs, etc. The hotel hosts motorcycle rally's with Triumph and Ducati in the summer, has the best wine festival in British Columbia in the fall, and provides shelter for skiers from all over the globe in the winter. The food is great, from burgers to steaks, with cocktails, craft beers, and a wine cellar to add. The staff are friendly and knowledgable in their respective departments making the entire environment and vibe of The Adventure Hotel warm and welcoming. A 5/5 star review from the team here at Tamarack and definitely a top choice for your stay and play visit to Nelson.
