Studio 9 Architecture + Planning is an architecture studio in Nelson, BC, designing everything from high-end homes to multi-unit housing and commercial buildings. They came to us for a visual identity and a website as considered as the buildings they design, and we still manage the site today.

The brief
Regional generalists, specialist work
Studio 9 works across an unusually wide range: custom homes, multi-unit housing, commercial and industrial buildings, land use planning and code consulting, much of it on the steep, difficult sites British Columbia is known for.
The identity had to hold all of that without flattening it, read as modern and technical without going cold, and sit comfortably next to wood, concrete and the landscapes their buildings live in.
Visual identity
Drawn from light through structure
The mark captures sunlight falling through a slatted structure, set beside a clean wordmark and a stacked 9 icon. Primary, secondary, wordmark and icon versions keep it working from a blade sign down to a favicon.
The palette is made of neutral earth tones chosen to complement Studio 9’s architecture and photography rather than compete with it: Charcoal Stone for depth, Earth Taupe and Pure Pebble for warmth, Linen Cloud for clarity.

Shot in light and shadow
To bring the brand online, we filmed and photographed the way light moves across Studio 9’s buildings and the landscapes around them. Short, calm loops animate every page of the site, alongside project photography and studio portraits of the team.
