A Refreshed Identity and Clear Communications for Nelson Hydro

Nelson Hydro came to us for help to strengthen their communications and community outreach - they knew they needed help ensuring that relevant information was reaching their local power consumers. Through meticulous research and thoughtful consultation, we concluded that embracing their unique identity and fostering transparent communication was key. This led to a brand refresh and the introduction of new communication channels, establishing a foundation for honest dialogue with their customers.

A Flexible Identity

By giving their beloved logo a subtle yet impactful refresh, extending it into a comprehensive identity system adaptable across all brand touchpoints. The updated logo is not just a change in appearance; it's a modernization that ensures responsiveness across various formats and sizes. Nelson Hydro’s visuals use beautiful imagery in combination with a primary design element — a curving line that moves throughout imagery and text. In its most literal form, the line represents a power line. More figuratively, the element speaks to flexibility, connectivity and community, and the sense that customers are being kept ‘in the loop’.

To initiate this project we started with a customer survey to see how the utilities customers were really feeling and what type(s) of information they would like to receive more of. From this we developed a comprehensive communications strategy for the utility. For an organization like this it really came down to taking complex topics and simplifying them into easily digestible smaller pieces of content.
